THE ACTUAL SOCIO-CULTURAL CONTEXT
Norchia
The territory of Norchia is characterized by the ancient agricultural vocation and in particular by the cultivation of the olive tree, so that in Vetralla every year, on the occasion of the production of new oil, the festival "Frantoi aperti" (Open oil mills) is celebrated.
The University of Tuscia owns the “Museum of the City and Territory”, founded in 1992 to document the resources of the area related to materials: stone, iron and metals, wood, bricks, ceramics and their production techniques . Particular attention is given to the production cycles of the materials that come to us.
The museum illustrates a careful census of quarries, ironworks, cutting woods and furnaces, of the activities that took place there and of the tools related to them.
The museum also promoted the complete documentation of the activities of the last local craftsmen still alive, custodians of an art handed down over the centuries.
